Q: Does Balmee contain probiotics?
A: No, Balmee doesn’t contain live probiotics. Instead, we use prebiotics and postbiotics -proven to support the skin's microbiome without the need for live bacteria.
Q: What’s the difference between pre-, pro-, and postbiotics?
Q: What’s the difference between pre-, pro-, and postbiotics?
A:
- Prebiotics are nutrients that feed and support the good bacteria already living on your skin.
- Probiotics are live bacteria (which we don’t use in Balmee).
- Postbiotics are the helpful substances produced when good bacteria break down ingredients during fermentation - things like vitamins, antioxidants, and other microbiome-supporting compounds.
Q: Is Hydrogenated Polyisobutene safe?
Q: Is Hydrogenated Polyisobutene safe?
A: There’s a lot of confusion around ingredients like Hydrogenated Polyisobutene. Some brands label it as ‘bad’ simply because it’s synthetic - but this is not fact-based. It’s actually a safe, approved ingredient used in clean, non-irritating formulations around the world - including in the EU and Australia, where cosmetic standards are the toughest.
Why we use it:
- It locks in moisture better than plant oils alone. It forms a lightweight, breathable barrier that helps keep lips soft, smooth, and hydrated for longer.
- It’s odourless, tasteless, and resistant to oxidation, which helps keep our formula fresh, stable, and microbiome-friendly over time.
- Unlike some unrefined petroleum-based ingredients, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene is free from harmful contaminants like PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), and it is not linked to endocrine disruption
