What our tube is made from
Our tube is made from 100% sugarcane bio-based plastic - a renewable material that reduces reliance on fossil fuels and captures carbon as it grows. It looks, feels, and performs exactly like standard plastic, but with a significantly lower environmental footprint.
When you're done, here's how to dispose of it properly:
- Tube and square cap - empty completely, remove the cap, and pop both in your yellow kerbside bin
- Applicator tip - cut or snip the tip off and pop in general waste, as TPE isn't widely recyclable kerbside

Q: What’s the difference between pre-, pro-, and postbiotics?
A:
- Prebiotics are nutrients that feed and support the good bacteria already living on your skin.
- Probiotics are live bacteria (which we don’t use in Balmee).
- Postbiotics are the helpful substances produced when good bacteria break down ingredients during fermentation - things like vitamins, antioxidants, and other microbiome-supporting compounds.
Q: Is Hydrogenated Polyisobutene safe?
Q: Is Hydrogenated Polyisobutene safe?
A: Hydrogenated Polyisobutene is sometimes misunderstood due to its synthetic nature. It is permitted for use in cosmetic formulations globally, including in Australia and the EU.
It helps to lock in moisture effectively. As with any ingredient, individual reactions can
vary, and we recommend patch testing for the first use.
Why we use it:
- It locks in moisture better than plant oils alone. It forms a lightweight, breathable barrier that helps keep lips soft, smooth, and hydrated for longer.
- It’s odourless, tasteless, and resistant to oxidation, which helps keep our formula fresh, stable, and microbiome-friendly over time.
- Unlike some unrefined petroleum-based ingredients, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene is free from harmful contaminants like PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), and it is not linked to endocrine disruption
